Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

An early thank you to the 700 thread

This blog was all ready to post on Xmas eve but in the immortal words of Fleecy, fuck it. I hope this cheers up AutumnLeaves and all those on the thread I hold so dear.

This is my thank you to all the 700ers who took part in 2021: now edited to include the final hall of fame. Here’s my (quite long) accolade to you all, along with a measly few of the photos you’ve posted and the achievements you’ve shared that have helped make my day brighter.

700 miles run is neither necessary nor sufficient, and the set mileage target is only a small element of why I love the thread. ITG said “we should just call ourselves the "whatever target you like we are here for encouragement" thread but that is not so catchy.” :-) Still achieving targets is cool and we’ll give you a big cheer if you reach it, whether it’s your first milestone of the year (please reset after) or a massive stretch, especially if you post a picture with a bin bin Here’s some of the class of 2021, starting with Sweetie who had an absolute blinder of a year:
Well done everyone who made their target this year, good luck to those still gunning for it, and everyone else: here’s to 2022 :-)

There was some great dot watching drama: Iron Sweetie at Outlaw; NDW Dave, Vic and Gordon at LonLas; Helegant’s *two* channel swims; NDWDave in the rain for TP100; Rosehip at Lakeland: Badger, Bint and assorted relatives at NDW50. It is hard to describe how gripping it can be, willing on someone you may not have met IRL through the medium of screen refresh, and the joy of finding a group of people who share it with you :-)

Meanwhile, Yumee survived child injuries, an ankle scare *and* a Covid scare for a 100k pb: RRR-Caz, who also had a blinder of a year, got his year streak badge: Corrah’s RTTS adventure was immense and emotional:
Autumn Leaves smashed the Tour of Merseyside: MandyMoo completed her first 2 mile open water swim: LazyDaisy reached her highest ever mileage: Carp ran Endure24 on no training and Groundhog reached a 100 marathons
There were so many great stories to be amongst, and I loved all the blogs that resulted. I’ve copied the full 2021 hall of fame below, don’t be shy to let me know if I’ve missed anything out buntingbuntingbunting

There were pbs and course pbs galore. There was run 700s, run half 700s, walked 700s, combined 700s. Much to my amusement, and by some very careful filtering, I was part of a 1,2,3 age category win with Paula and Bint at Crystal Palace 10k :-) :-)

There were also age category podiums for Teebs, Badger, Caz, LazyDaisy, AutumnLeaves, Photoset, ageingtractor, and Sweetie with Columba still regularly first in category at Parkrun because everyone else is too scared to challenge her :-)

ITG got on an actual podium not once but twice star, the latter at a National event :-o

Internationally we adopted Um’s daughter’s Paralympic medals and TeeBees nephew’s regional records as our own :-)

Meanwhile, MandyMoo’s brother was caught up in the fall of Kabul: if you missed his report it’s something else: news.sky.com

Lip Gloss and ITG both won MoTM hooray! It did look like Lip Gloss had taken to running in a black thong :-)
Meanwhile here is ITG looking moody and magnificent by an exploding volcano:
Even where the target was 700, it wasn’t one bin for everyone. NDWDave celebrated 2100 runs with triple bins:
while others celebrated next to whatever was handy :-)
(that was Daisy reaching a 1000) shamelessly deploying their families
or just having an ice cream
And as ever, some of my favourite pictures were not about racing or mileage at all. There were fabulous views which made me want to get outside:
And some less tempting :-o
There was cake! Cayke! (Sorry V’rap :-) )
There were sunrises and sunsets:
There were bullying donkeys:
centrestage fowl:
and downright strangeness
There were meet ups:
(Ed: these two meet up quite often :-) )
And look! Linds is flying!
And there were cats and dogs:
Thanks to everyone who chatted and cheered and complained and made smartarse comments that made me laugh, and posted images, and generally did what you could to keep getting out through injury, job changes, night shifts, insomnia, weather, toothache, hayfever, bereavement, work stress and an ongoing pandemic. Terrific work. To those who dipped in and out the thread (always welcome) and those who read every word (lunatics). I think I may love you all. See you next year!

Serendippily

Petersfield based. PF and neuromas took out almost two years. Now with insoles and a raced marathon under my belt I’m not cured but I’m back to where I was in terms of speed and mileage. So now Target 80 miles month with some core / legwork and of course, 700 miles
