Rlhave you read Born To Run by Christopher MacDougall? Tarahumara Indians and tiny short strides. You'll find your breathing slows down AND you'll reduce your injury risk. Good luck. :-) G

Gaming myself on heart rate was the best way to slow myself down - set a target for the max average per mile (or something similar) and keep the HR under that. Makes you conscious of the effort and provides a bit of a motivation / target to chase during a run.

Lots of great suggestions. Thanks everyone.
Not read Born to Run but it's on the list (better check the Kindle in case I've already bought it).

So early conclusions from all the wonderful advice.

Watching heart rate and trying to keep under 160 today certainly helped.
Breathing / steps I shall have to practice (and dump the headphones when doing so to help concentration)
I need to keep better form when running at a slower pace as had a tendency to slouch.

All together feeling more positive and fresh an hour+ running. Been a while since I could say that.

Got something to say?

About This Thread

Maintained by Neil_E_There
I'm certainly not the fastest but when feeling tiredness creeping in I think I need to slow down a bit to catch my breath but this invariably never happens and if anything I get quicker until I just stop.

Any tips for managing pace within a run would be welcome.
