Rlhave you read Born To Run by Christopher MacDougall? Tarahumara Indians and tiny short strides. You'll find your breathing slows down AND you'll reduce your injury risk. Good luck. G

Gaming myself on heart rate was the best way to slow myself down - set a target for the max average per mile (or something similar) and keep the HR under that. Makes you conscious of the effort and provides a bit of a motivation / target to chase during a run.

Lots of great suggestions. Thanks everyone. Not read Born to Run but it's on the list (better check the Kindle in case I've already bought it). |

So early conclusions from all the wonderful advice. Watching heart rate and trying to keep under 160 today certainly helped. Breathing / steps I shall have to practice (and dump the headphones when doing so to help concentration) I need to keep better form when running at a slower pace as had a tendency to slouch. All together feeling more positive and fresh an hour+ running. Been a while since I could say that. |
