Tewkesbury Half. Main, certain, important aim was to finally exorcise my 80 minute demons. I was willing to run as close to pace as required to make this happen.
Shot off too fast as I felt I shouldn't be sitting in 30th place, but people soon sorted themselves out. Miles 5, 7 and 8 had subtle climbs with the last 2 miles being quite forgiving. Ran quite comfortably after 3 miles, working my way into 9th place and leading a chasing pack. The pack broke apart quickly with 1 guy firmly and very comfortably playing my shadow. He was friendly enough and shared water etc from the stations, but was definitely not going to lead the pace.
We passed another guy and I was into 8th with 6 and 7 in sight.. Sadly they didn't get any closer as they had their own battle and change of places.
Massive conflict of emotions at 11.5 miles on the final climb where my shoulder buddy took off, upping the pace hugely and flyng away from me. Very pleased to have something to chase to guarantee the time, but gutted not to be able to stick with him. Slowly reeled him in over the final mile, but was still 10 seconds down at the end. By far the most comfortable half I can remember and really pleased to at last get under 80 minutes. Can't complain abot the very solid negative split either. Excellent little course, very similar to Chippenham but with a gentle descent for the last couple of miles. 9th.
