Notes & Comments

This was absolutely brilliant. Just the best ever! Went with the hope in the back of my mind that I might try for a PB - even though no-one gets a PB in New York. Made out 3 time bands. One to break 4 hours, which I was confident I could do. One to run around 3.53 and one for a PB. The weather forecast even before we set off wasn't promising with a windy day forecast. and low temperatures. So I took lots of clothes to throw away. 6 tops, 2 pairs of trousers, hat and hoodie and 2 pairs of gloves. Knew I would be waiting around for 3 hours at the start and I had no intention of missing my start wave this time. Went to start with Susie and even before I got to her hotel I thought the PB was out of the window because of the wind. It turned out to be 45mph with gusts up to 50mph. The organisers wouldn't let the wheelchair athletes use the VZ bridge as they thought they might be blown over. Started steadily for first mile over bridge then kept up pace for a PB until about 14 miles. Slowed in last 6 miles but was never in any danger of not going under 4 hours. Just an honour to be part of it. Volunteers around the course and at finish so humbling. Ran every step of the way, apart from drinks stops which I kept to a minimum because Martin and Carol gave me bottles along the way. Cool westher helped witht that. Tired and slowed towards the end but just kept going. Was reallly pleased with my commitment. Decent time in very difficult conditions. Some signs along the way. Bathroom available. Poops only. Run faster Mum, we're hungry. Run like you stole something.Came 12776/50,564, so was in top 25% of all finishers. 133/1048 in age group. Did 1st 10k in 54.30, 2nd 10K in 53.56, 3rd 10K in 49.28, 4th 10K in 59.44. Cals 3075.
