Notes & Comments

Buxton half marathon.

Ow! Brutally hilly. The first 3 miles were uphill into a headwind and I took them easy and stretched out on the descent that followed. I was in the top 25 at this point. I planned to up the pace from 6 miles and move through the field. That was until I got to the hill at 7 miles which absolutely broke me. I recovered on the descent but then my legs went to jelly on the hill at 10 miles. I actually felt hungry and concerned I was going to totally bonk. I could have done with a gel really. I was in survival mode from mile 10 and was content with just holding my place. That was until a local runner from Buxton came past. I stayed with him right until the finish. In the last 200m the marshalls didn't signal which way to turn. The Buxton runner went the wrong way. So I sportingly waited for him for about 5 seconds and then beat him in the sprint finish. A really great course with fantastic scenery.
