Park at the huge car-park at Port Edgar marina in South Queensferry. Urban and country roads west take you towards Hopetoun House, following the John Muir trail through the grounds on perfect paths and tracks, then through woodland towards Blackness Castle, where a loop through the village and along the water front can form a loop - well worth heading up close to the castle for the views. Back along the shore and then the woods, with higher paths avilable for variety. Option of a detour up to Midhope Castle and Abercorn Kirk before back round Hopetoun House and an alternative higher return path. If you've anything left in your legs, add a crossing over the Forth Road Bridge (now with hardly any traffic on it) to watch the boats below (the one on the right of the photo had my daughter in it!) Three bridges, two castles and one country house make for an iconic trail run.
