Thought I'd have a go at this blog thing. It's just an online diary really, isn't it?

A couple of lovely running experiences this week - Sunday I had been cooped up in the airport for a few hours, seeing my son off (he's 11 and he flies unaccompanied back home to the Isle of Lewis and I have to wait in the airport until the flight actually leaves, so was there about 3 hours in all; was also feeling a bit sad, as I always do when he goes home). Got home about 7 and was worried that it would be too late to go out for a run. It had been tipping down with rain all day in Edinburgh too.

But I went for it at about 7.30 and it was brilliant. Went up on the Pentlands, which are gorgeous at the best of times. But rain drenched, with late evening sunshine on bright purple heather and a bruised, black and indigo sky as background, well, it really surpassed itself. The lateness of the hour (and the wetness of the rain) meant I had the hills to myself (total body count in an hour and a half was one farmer dipping his sheep and a bird watcher standing stock still with his binoculars - the former gave a cheery hulloo and the latter a friendly nod).

Felt a bit lethargic for the first 15 mins, a mile or so of steady uphill on tarmac path, but then turned off into the hills and even though it's still uphill it just felt like I was floating. I actually found myself doing Bambi like boings over the puddles and streams, with a stupid grin on my face. Just as well there was no one around to see it!

And Wednesday was club night. I love the club - so friendly and really buzzing just now. There must have been 30 out. My OH is new to running and she was able to join the jogscotland group, who did walk/jog. The jogleader from the club is absolutely brilliant and paces it for them so that it's doable but still a challenge. She was really pleased to have done 3 miles or so without too many walk breaks. And I set off with the faster group, but felt no embarrassment at dropping to the back and running a very comfortable 5 or 6 miles with a triathlete-ess who was injured. So we chatted and loped along, she nursing an injury and me just being lazy!

And in between there has been 100 press up challenge (with OH joining in with a 100 sit up variation - I must ask Johnny Blaze whether he can say if there is an official 100 sit up version of the challenge?) and a bodypump class for me, as a cross train. Looking forward to gym again on Friday and a lovely run in the hills again sometime this weekend.

Crikey I love running.

Got something to say?

Started running 07 after a nasty mountain bike accident end of 06 (a week in hospital and a spot of plastic surgery) put me off mountain biking. (See fetcheveryone.com/gallery-showphoto.php?id19442 for gruesome detail!) Decided running on 2 feet couldn't be as dangerous! Edinburgh Marathon 08 was the goal. Joined a club, did some training, got injured, got physio'd and fixed. Did it in 3:42. Pleased with the time. Loved the experience. But most of all I love the feeling of running, the camaraderie of the club and the lovely, lovely land of fetch. You are all wonderful! heart Update: Fetch Festive Calendar wanted an update. Errr, I'm not a parsnip. There you go.
