It's trickier than you think to find interesting things within a mile of your house so I've decided on a loose definition of interesting and a loose definition of a mile (I've only added less than a quarter of a mile!)
1. When you live somewhere flat, you can see for miles
If you look closely you can see a lot of birds, a lot of soggy field, a few trees (Lincolnshire has the least population of trees - this may or may not be due to all the farming in the county) but no hills.
2. It has only just been brought to my attention that this bridge (I live in a tiny wee hamlet called Cowbridge which is 2 miles north of Boston), this bridge which is actually THE Cow Bridge
is also a listed building. Go figure! The house in the photo had no access except by boat before the bridge was built.
3. Said Cowbridge has a couple of drains in it. The Maud Foster Drain and the Cowbridge Drain. The former goes into Boston, the latter doesn't The latter also has a fair few kingfishers but the little buggers are too fast to have their photo taken
4. I am lucky enough to live somewhere where the start of the local parkrun is about 1.5 miles, door to start. The actual entrance to the park is just beyond my 1 mile marker (for Fetchpoint purposes) (X marks the spot of roughly where the sign is)
5. One of my favourite spots to run is Boston Cemetery which is also a nature reserve in the oldest part. The cemetery opened in 1855 and the original half is beautiful. This used to be the morgue
It is just over the mile marker from my home!
Hope you found Cowbridge a little bit interesting
