This was a hard one - particularly with my self-imposed house rule of only using photos taken during a run.
1. Auguste Rodin - Sculptor
You'll be as surprised as me to learn that this early work by Rodin has lain undiscovered in the garden of the RSPB for over a hundred years. Apparently it was only a shortage of chainsaw fuel that led him to start using bronze as a medium rather than timber.
2. Augustine of Hippo - Theologian
As well as being a theologian, Augustine is patron saint of printers. As far as I am aware we have more printers (one) in Sandy that we do theologians (zero).
3. Emperor Augustus - 27BC to AD14. Anything that old or older would do
Galley Hill Fort, on the edge of the RSPB, was an iron age fort, that was later used by the Romans. Not much to see there now, but a helpful information board!
4. Auguste Escoffier - Founder of modern cuisine
We're lucky to have a number of quite good 'gastro pubs' near us - serving largely local produce carefully cooked and presented. Here's the John O'Gaunt in Sutton - complete with a Michelin something by the door.
5. Auguste Clown - An anarchist, joker or fool
Some may consider Giles Brandreth a bit of a joker or fool. Personally I find him about as entertaining as a bout of gastroenteritis.
6. Augusta National Golf Club, home of The Masters
The John O'Gaunt golf club - where some people seem to be spoiling a nice walk.
7. Auguste Renoir -Impressionist Artist
More than a hint of Renoir's famous "The Skiff" in this mosiac (part of a series in three local towns) that commemorates the Sandy Show.
8. Smaug - Treasure hoarding Dragon (The Hobbit)
Wasn't sure what I was going to do about this one, until I stumbled across this treasure chest randomly placed in a housing estate:
And also these cuddly dragons in the window of the florist:
9. Evelyn Waugh - Author
A Handful of Dust - considered to be one of his greatest works (although I must confess to never having read it).
10. Auguste Mobius - Inventor of the mobius strip
I remembered the Age UK logo having something very mobius strip looking on its logo - so ran to Biggleswade to snap the sign on the charity shop.
Thanks for the clues Chrisity - and the seasonal theme. That one definitely made me think a bit!
