We bade farewell to our Springer Spaniel Ollie today. He was nearer 14 than 13, and after developing rapid breathing three weeks ago he has recently stopped eating. The path he was on had only one end point, and today both we and our excellent vet decided now was the time to intervene on that path.
He was a rescue that we adopted 8 years ago when he was 5. He has been a wonderful companion: such a gentle nature and also playful. We holidayed often on the Northumberland coast and he loved the beach and sea
He also knew how to relax
In his early days with us he would demonstrate his prowess with "sticks"
Until he developed arthritis in his elbows he loved chasing tennis balls, and even after that he was always on the lookout for them and would suddenly divert into the depths of a hedge and emerge triumphant
He has given us so much joy and we are so thankful for the 8 years we had with him

Always attracted to idea of distance running (from watching London Marathon) but apart from a single half marathon in my 20s did nothing about it till my forties.Really got into it then. Highlight very definitely 2008 Windermere Marathon when I was 3rd mv45 in 3:10:50.
Family commitments and injury stopped me running in my early 50s.
Trying for 3rd time to go again, but low key - for enjoyment and personal targets rather than racing.
Still struggling to really get back runing regularly. Thought I'd cracked it but losing it again at the moment. Parkrun has kept me going recently.
Outside running for last 37 years I have been a software developer, working on a CAE system used throughout Europe in the thermal design of satellites.
Married with two children in their early twenties and two dogs.
