Rock n roll Liverpool marathon. I was a little lucky to get away with this. Set off at what I intended as a comfortable pace on the flats and took it easier on the hills. Was surprised to go through 10k in 41 mins and 1/2 in 1.36. It then dawned on me that I was knackered so I was basically holding on for over 12 miles. In that respect I'm pretty pleased I did the second half in 1.32 but it took every ounce of belief and determination that I had. I didn't think I could put myself through the pain of Manchester again but the idea of finishing in 3.01 made me keep pushing. Last 4 miles were straight up the side of the Mersey into a headwind and was probably the most miserable stretch of running I can remember in a long time but overall really chuffed to go sub 3 again. Route was good but testing, a proper tour of the city with a lot of parks thrown in, there were a couple of junctions without marshalls where I wasn't 100% sure which direction to go in which is a bit shit for a £50 entry fee! Finished 29th out of 2479 finishes. Can't complain about that.
