Notes & Comments

Yeovil Open Evening 800m. Started 20 minutes late (due to sprint races taking longer) - I blame Richard, he must have been running a lap of honor after his 100m PB! I wasn't feeling great before this, felt a bit flat and lethargic warming up, and didn't have any spring. Managed to warm up including 4 strides with plenty of time before my race (probably because it was 20 minutes late!). I was in lane 6 and the plan from the start had been to aim to go through 400m in 63, which, with the headwind and lack of pacers/competition was a tall order. But luckily I managed to do it, leading the race until around 700-750m before a speedy Somer lad overtook me and won in about 2.12 (my SB). I knew once I went through the bell that I had overcooked it, I was already struggling, and heading into the back straight the lactic was already flooding my body, legs, and arms were fatiguing. I got to 600m absolutely cooked and honestly didn't think I'd finish - but I just managed to keep going until the finish line. The lactic was so bad I felt like I was going to vomit after.
