Notes & Comments

19:59 official, thanks Ian. And 2nd in cat (to Murray Strain of HBT no less! Though Iain Howatt from Bannatynes was ahead of me in place and age!) Great to see you and Lorraine too. What a fab mini Fetch fest in the cafe after with Bazo, Mitch and Berit too. Enjoyed that a lot. Drove in early cos wasn't sure about parking, but there was loads of space and free. Edinburgh, free parking? Unheard of! I saved a tourist money too, by pointing out free on a Sat. Went for warm up jog, up the hill a bit and tried to stretch everything out and even doing bits of proper warm up. Spotted Bazo and we had a good chat. Also Peter B, Ian from Bannatynes etc. Great to see folk, parkrun is great community. Off we go, Bazo going further forward than I normally would. But quite tight up the road, and a few folk pushing through, but we got most back! Bazo clearly focussed on pace surged a couple times and I was prepared to drop off, but felt OK to go with him (annoying him on his shoulder!) Top of the rise came reasonably quickly, said thanks to marshal at Dunsapie, then flattened and a wee undulation, but Bazo was picking it up nicely. Settled into group with first lady, and let Bazo know that she was looking pretty quick, then as we came to the down she pushed ahead. Bazo said to push on, so I went with it and just rolled on down the hill. After a few hundred metres I felt quite comfortable, so went past the female runner and said I was just going for a flying mile and she didn't seem to mind. As it flattened out I slowed up big time, then realised there was more than 1/4 mile still to go and even a wee kicker up! But just plodded it out to the finish. Bazo absolutely smashed his target with nearly 30s off his course best. First lady got a PB and said thanks at end too. Wee chat with folk, jog to the cafe and then a lovely hour or so of chatting and catching up. Magic. I hadn't looked at my watch throughout, so didn't know how quick the mile was. Fetch says best mile was 5:15. That's faster than my mile PB from 10 years ago! :-O What fun! :-) G
