Notes & Comments

Cardiff Indoor Christmas 3000m. My first race since February and 'giving up' running. I wanted to try and run within 30 seconds of my PB (9.51) so put 10.15 as a prediction. Annoyingly a few days before my throat started hurting. I also felt very nervous about the race, more so than I normally would, probably because I hadn't done one for so long. They had a record turn out, so 6 heats and I was in heat 4. Our pacer was running 79 second 400s, so I let everyone else shoot off and just cruised near the back. I didn't feel too bad for the first couple of laps, but by the time I got the 1km, I was starting to feel quite tired. I really struggled from about half way, breathing was very heavy, lungs were burning and I felt a little fatigued. I think what ever is wrong with my throat (I found a white spot at the back after the race) was contributing to my suffering and slowing. I didn't push it 100% but wasn't up to that anyway. Collapsed straight onto the floor once I finished, feeling dizzy and exhausted but glad it was over! Another lesson I learn't is to wear socks if I haven't worn spikes for a long time - both heals now have broken blisters!
