I asked if I could help and, contrary to standard sportive etiquette, he said 'yes'. Turns out he's had a puncture so taken the wheel off, chucked the skewer and skewer head to one side, fixed the puncture and now wanted someone to help search through the brambles and undergrowth to look for his skewer head. He called the broom wagon in the end.
