Ferns for sure - my Boston Ferns are thriving. Aspidistra and Calathea - though they are not hanging basket types I have a Ceropegia woodii (called Lady Felicity Lovebundle) which I adore and which is thriving and would look lovely in a hanging basket If it helps, I buy my plants on a website called Patch Plants. I'm not suggesting your daughter buys from them if she isn't London based but you can filter on their website by things like "loves shade"
