um
Join the club Sarah. Well, grandparents club, nit grandmothers.
Hope it all went well, and they coped with the current restrictions on access and visiting, or not.
-------------

However, in the virtual holiday, we're at Crater Lake for the day. Population? 152. Plus however many people are staying in the lodge. So, 71 rooms, maybe doubled?
If interested, it’s a rapidly growing area. The population has grown 442.9% since 2010.

With a bit of help from excel, that means the 2010 population was 28.

And elevation – always confusing in US – when you can be at 7000ft before you even start climbing. But it does mean the snow is still on the higher points.

That’s the web for you. My guidebook didn’t give details like that.

Anyway, plans for the day? Crater Rim drive and walk, plus waterfall and mountain climb (well, walk) diversion. The rim trail is about 35 miles, so a bit far to run or walk. There seems to be a shuttle bus type service, or car, or Trip Adviser says it’s closed. But the NP web site and all indications here are that it’s open.
So we’re off.

Lake views, all day long, all round the rim.

Waterfalls. Lots to choose from, diversions to Toketee Falls and Plaikni Falls respectively.

And then, about ¾ of the way round, a walking diversion to climb Mount Scott. Roughly another 1000ft of climb, to get to 8929ft.
View from the car park, then from the top, just a little later.

Then back to the lodge for a beer or two. I did get advice from my brother yesterday, not to ski around here …

Hi Um, with your shot of the Lodge, you’ve managed to capture the room that we had - the top two windows on the left - well done !
When we were having breakfast there, (on the ground floor, underneath our room, with the big windows), and remember it was snowing hard, our waiter told us about the skier earlier in the year - whilst serving breakfast, he saw a skier go past the end window; 2 seconds later, he realised that he had gone over the edge of the crater, after a few hours and a helicopter later they rescued him from 150ft down, tangled in trees, a few broken bones but otherwise ok.

Congratulations Sarah, the glamorous grandmother. I hope your daughter & the baby are both doing well.

Well done to all the others on this thread who've reached their goals. Too numerous to mention with everything that's been going on in this forum over the last few days.

I heart this thread. :-)

Loads of bunting for everyone.

Just made the teen walk to the post office with me, dropped off LD's medal, then finally got the all-day breakfast I wanted yesterday ;-)

Dropping teen off at her mum's house in a couple of hours so will find somewhere to run on the way back.
