Tonight: Pip Blom at the Bullingdon, Oxford. Entertaining bouncy indie pop. Weird that all the drumming was on a backing track (their drummer was elsewhere? Not sure), but it worked OK. I think I prefer the songs they do that are more 'stripped back', so to speak. There was one song that was a direct rip off of a Quickspace Supersport riff ('Come Home' I think), I like that. Good fun! |

China Crisis at the O2 Academy Oxford. I missed the support band - this gig was early starting so all the OAPs in the audience could catch their bus home All your hits and more, perhaps a bit muddy of sound; more like a pub band rendition of some of them. Gary was very entertaining with between-song banter and the audience appreciated the sing-alongs All that glorious precision of the originals was somewhat lost. I'm glad I went, it was fun but I'm not sure this counts as high art - last night Pip Blom were 100% better at that. |

Ally Pally again tonight for Idles. First time seeing them and they didn’t disappoint. @Oranj did China Crisis play African & White? Always my favourite of theirs. |

@Fitz Yes, they played two sets and started the second half with that, great tune. The hits that really went down well were the singalongs: Black Man Ray, King in a Catholic Style.

They closed with Arizona Sky. It's not a song I know so well, but definitely finished on a high note.
