Good work heptathletes! My 10,000 fell victim to a crazy busy day yesterday so I stuck at 6 events - but enjoyed the challenge regardless, especially as I hadn't been on the C2 for a while.

Did my first "race pace" interval sesh tonight to start prepping for/assessing whether I should enter the Virtual champs.

5 x 500m @ better than 1:45 makes me feel good about things. the fact that I couldn't have done a sixth makes me less so. Still, it's a start. Let's see where this goes from here.

How is everyone doing? I didn't row yesterday (I did ride my bike and pick up heavy things though) but tonight I did a 4 x 1500m threshold interval session. It feels good to be trying to go fast again!

I just saw on Twitter that James Cracknell is attempting a new world record for a marathon on a C2. As far as I can tell the existing record is a shade over 2:21:08.

Not been on the rower since Sunday's 10000m. Been feeling a little run down for a few days so have eased off things in general. Beginning to feel a bit better now though so will try and get back into things over coming days.

Good luck to Mr Cracknell - just looking at the time he'll be on there for makes me feel sore, let alonecat the pace he'll need to maintain!

The only time I've seen a marathon row done was some footage from the CrossFit Games a couple of years back when they gave the athletes that as one of the events. These guys are really fit but wouldn't normally do anything as long as that. The sight of some of them afterwards brought tears to your eyes. They were just broken!

I know Crackers has a bit more of a rowing background but he's going to have to thrash himself to challenge the record. I'd bet on him doing it but I'd also bet on him being pretty immobile the next few days.

I would have expected the erging marathon record to be faster than the running record, tbh. Maybe it's slower because because fewer people do them on the erg. Although of course the distance on the erg is purely notional.
