Badger: used to be like that in the UK, but the Public Lending Rights bl.uk now ensures some payment when books are borrowed. Anyone know how much?

if you buy a book second-hand, you might decide you like the author, then buy his/her next new book
(most recent example for me being John Lanchester)

Whilst I do buy some books on Kindle, I do try to support small publishers. I have had some fabulous books from Salt Publishing saltpublishing.com They've had a couple of wobbles in the past few years and I would be sad to see their demise. Padrika Tarrant's short stories are recommended.

Strangely my copy has a shorter quote from Kim Gordon on the cover. I prefer the shorter one.

Book ordered.

Bit snowed under with novels at the moment. Getting towards the end of The Master and Margarita (re-read); then have The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and All the Light We Cannot See.

How are you getting on with The Master columba? I first read it in the original Russian but didn't get the full import, so re-read it in English. All my tutors raved over it, but I thought the hype was a bit bigger than the substance.
