I have an Iberital (MC2) grinder. It's the only budget friendly grinder that it is capable of an espresso grind that I could find. It has quite a few peculiarities to be honest, and I wouldn't recommend it without caveats. And it might be discontinued.

I have been looking for a not-crazily-priced replacement for it, but didn't come up with anything.

I had an MC2 but it was just too noisy.

A good hand grinder is probably the value for money sweet spot; they are easy to use and don't take too long to grind, as well as having the range to do espresso as well as other less finely ground options.

Kingrinder are a good option to try, or timemore. I've got a timemore chestnut at work for aeropress, no hassle at all to use.

I’d be keen on a hand grinder definitely. Thank you folks.

Other than:

1) a v.fine (slow) adjustment worm screw, 2) needing to avoid getting grounds into the push button &

3) it's capacity to retain 2.5g of grounds (which can be dislodged easily using a straw cleaner sized bottle brush - do this with the power off & don't ask me how I know that πŸ˜‰)....

the MC2 is great bit of kit & great value for money.

The killer for me with the MC2 was that if I ever bought a different coffee, or even if I just wanted to alternate between my normal one and decaff (or between espresso and say aeropress or V60), that the process of swapping between was tortuous. If I'd been content just to stick with one type for a long period of time it would have done the job well, even if it was a touch noisy.

At the moment I've got 6 different coffees on the go, each of which has a different grind requirement. The Niche is so, so easy to use with different options that every day it is worth it's substantial weight in gold to me; my all time favourite luxury item!

If I was buying today, there are cheaper single dose / easily adjustable options, so I may not splurge as much as I did, but it was a special birthday :-)

Just checked Niche price. Luxury indeed. I bet it’s lovely to use.

Yes, it is (both luxury, and lovely to use). Fingers crossed it'll outlast me, in which case I can justify the vfm.

Worth a look at this video on the good vfm option for a handgrinder.
