Nice baking from so many people!

Interesting to hear the variation in scone recipes - it had never occurred to me to add egg. I make really basic scones, that you could probably argue aren't real scones as they don't have lashing of butter or milk!

240g plain flour
4 tsp baking powder
60ml canola oil
water to make it the right consistency (about 175ml I think)
chopped apple and walnut

The ones pictured on this thread look much fancier.

Runnyeyes - yes, I use a Tesco standard strong cheddar, no need for anything fancy. I really fancy baking them, but in this hot weather I am not sure I have the stamina. Plus the quantity I usually bake means I need to take some into work so we don't put on a stone in a week ;-)

A colleague posted a recipe for Staffordshire oatcakes on Facebork the other day. Might have a go at some point, but perhaps more a recipe for people who don't have easy access to them from the shops.

Quimby - if you cut then freeze the scones they are edible straight from the freezer with about a 30 second blast in the microwave. Not as good as fresh from the oven but handy to have as a standby.

I love oatcakes. I've made them before using a hairy bikers recipe.

I didn't try Staffordshire oatcakes til I was 20 on account of my father disapproving because they were from the potteries.
