Saturday sea swims are a bit hit and miss just now with all the storms but that's three weeks on the trot we've got in. The waters are manky mind and I yearn for the clear waters I always seem to get up the west coast of Scotland. I guess they'll clear eventually.

The swim was about 1600 meters with just Andy, my swim buddy for company . It started with a comedy wipe out of both of us by a huge wave. In all this time, that's never happened before and was a source of much merriment to a few onlookers.

The manky water was swelling all over the place and it was a strange swim. Andy stopped me a few hundred meters out to watch a seal ducking and diving. It stayed away from us but we saw it a few times on the outward swim. They may he lovely but I've seen far to many wildlife programs with their teeth on show...

We'd just decided it was too fruity today to go to the lighthouse when another huge wave came over the pier wiping Andy out and giving me a huge gobful while laughing.

Swim back seemed to take longer than usual, again due to the swells and high water.

Coffee and bagel after is always welcome.

Hope the seas aren't as manky where you are.

I swam in the sea (Lyme Bay, East Devon) yesterday for the first time in months - a lot of storms and sewage alerts have been a real nuisance this autumn. It was a lovely dip. Glad I took advantage yesterday because today it was back to stormy waters :-(

Fair play to you lot. After this year's reports I won’t be swimming in any river or sea any time soon.

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
