My first 3.8k today in Coniston water. Strange affair with all the social distancing . Wait in your car until 10 minutes before, then line up next to a cone with your number on ,2 metres apart. Walk up to a table and collect your chip and walk into the water and immediately you start swimming.
Water was very warm . I'm told 19 degrees and it felt it. I'm not used to such temperatures and it was like a warm bath. At times, I was actually too warm and wishing I didn't have a wetsuit on.
As I'd not swam this far before it was a case of start very steady and just see how I felt each of the 3 laps . Pleased to say each lap I felt better and was more pleased that I wasn't desperate for the finish. All my sea swimming paying off. I'd guessed I'd take 20 minutes per kilometre at a steady pace but didn't know if I'd get tired and slow . As it happened I was more or less spot on that and I didn't tire.
Massive triangular yellow buoys aided sighting plus a huge yellow duck at the start and finish. Well organised by the epic racing team (those behind the Lakeland 100 race) . I think I'll do another and maybe some further next year. All good for my target Tri next year

That's great Flip. I love the duck!
We have a real duck regularly in the lake at the swimming end close to the swimmers (and sometimes has a pal with them). We think they are this year's babies, so have grown up with people swimming around.
Thanks for all the goggle recommendations and good to hear the Zoggs Predator Flex originals are well-used by peeps on here. Mine lasted more than 3 years with lots of use. I'm going to order another pair or two when they're back in stock. I had to make do with another type of Predator last week - the only ones that were in stock - too dark and too small but they were fine as an emergency option.

Day one of work rather than holiday and I am missing my sea swim already! Made the school girl error of mis-reading the tide yesterday so when I arrived all ready to run and swim I was welcomed by the mud flats! DUH!
Must try harder!
Any of you know any local swim clubs around Essex? Mersea Island, Dedham, Wivenhoe or Rowhedge and Brightlingsea? Is there a good UK general link that you can use to find out?

There's the Chalkwell Redcaps - Argie formerly of this parish used to be a member. Don't know of any further north than that, but let me know if you stumble across one.
