A couple of oxygenating plants like Eloda are useful underwater plants that provide hiding places for any creatures that adopt the pond.

Rain water >>>tap water for filling them up too. My current pond is just simply too deep (it's probably 1m) - really even for the water lilies in it. Only the rushes type things I have seem to like it. And it gets too much blanket and duck weed and not enough sun. I am going to have carefully extract everything in the pond before I transplant it to the new one and make sure there's no weed on planters/roots etc.

Hanneke Jun 2023 5:58pm, 13 Jun 2023 104,790 posts	0 Hanneke I use those pond planting bags too, they are excellent! They don't degrade and break up plus you can shape them to fit ito say a crack between a rock, a log and the edge of the pond, making your planting look really natural.

I've actually been given a couple acres of land and two huge polytunnels to turn into a community growing project but that is another story. Anyway back to the patch. Lettuce, kale, chard, pots, cabbage etc all growing lovely but the spinach keeps going dry and brown? Too much water, not enough water, a nutrient problem? Thanks in advance ☺
