In Edinburgh area for a few days and took Tuss for a two hour walk on the canal around Ratho this safternoon. Several singing skylark above the fields, a flock of maybe six LTT, a mewing buzzard but best of all a stunning male yellowhammer

Still no chiffchaffs here on my usual route today. This is rather late for them.

DT, I've seen the kingfisher a couple times along that section of the canal by Ratho. Mind you, that was twice in 10 years! G

Pair of siskins on the feeders just now, the male looking particularly bright in the spring sun. Hardly had any this winter, so I nice surprise.

Had an enjoyable morning at Oare Marshes (north Kent) with a group led by a chap from Kent Wildlife Trust. It was really helpful to have an expert on hand to ID some species, especially little fast moving birds that you really have to know their call, and raptors, which I’m no good at telling apart in flight.
A good selection of ducks and waders to be seen. New species for me (or species I might have seen before but not recognised) were Pintails, Gadwall, Bearded Tit, Reed Bunting, Grey Plover and Ruff.

Me and Tuss went over to North Berwick today. Our mates were around (loads of oyk, a few curlew and a redshank) but we also spotted several small groups of eider. I’d forgotten how much I love them
