Well, that was ok, but VERY short! Only 3 miles???? Ah well... not really worth bothering with... just got warmed up running through a muddy ditch and up onto a reasonable hill and back down it again and they said ladies to your right... The blokes get to do two laps, I was not allowed Anyway, disappointing time of 28 mins and a few seconds, as I was expecting to run twice as far I was not going flat out. But the club was pleased, I came 18th out of 48, which apparently is good, as there were some strong runners out... think I was 3rd lady of our club, so I may have helped them somewhere down the line...
Are all xcountry races this short?

Yeah, i find them a bit too short for me and I'm only just getting going. I've tried to tackle that by doing a lap (if multiple) first as a warm-up, helps a bit. This is my 1st season so still finding my way

I ran half a lap as warmup. If I had known it was only one lap, I'd have done a whole lap! Well, this was my first so now I know for next time

Nice course though! Lovely views up the top over Ludlow and beyond to the Shropshire hills.

Well done Han. Our ladies league races are usually 6K. They are run flat out as fast as you can races with the object of catching as many girls in your league as possible. Mixed races for us tend to be 5 miles with one 7.5. There is a 10 mile XC too.

I have now been told this is the shortest one in the league, apparently because it is so hilly! LOL... well, it was but not out of the ordinary for me as a fell runner. I did pick off quite a few lads, not that many women, as, apparently it was a very strong field. However, I came in ahead of a girl in my club who normally is in the top 10 and a scorer for the team, so they were well impressed. Think I was 3rd lady of our club over the line... not sure.

Hi all, first post on this thread. I've only a couple of trail races that i really enjoyed so i thought i would try a x country/fell race. I've found the Cumbria Cross Country" near Penrith, not to far away and a decent distance (9k) and on a day i can make. Has anyone done this before who could give me a description and is it a decent introduction. Do i need any specialist stuff ? basically any advice welcome.

I was at the Cranford one on Saturday too, made a change to have a real flat XC race My legs were thoroughly coated in mud at the end! Next XC for me is Pirie 10 which is definitely a challenging course, then next Surrey ladies is at Reigate Priory which should be scenic, although there will be more hills than Cranford - and probably a lot colder in January too!
