HOD - Birmingham was my 4th marathon.

My 4th should have been Southampton, April 2017. At the halfway stage I got incorrectly marshalled onto the 10K course (the event being run in parallel with the marathon) and finished up with a 20ish mile DNF, after initially being mistaken for a ridiculously fast marathon finisher. Now THAT was a feckin farce!!!

By comparison, Birmingham in the October later that year was pretty perfect for me and went a long way to exorcising the trauma of being robbed of a marathon that I was in good shape for.

As you can tell, I can barely remember it and have moved right on…….

It was Oscar. I try not to overdramatise the impact it had on me, but I can honestly only compare it to grief.
I never wanted to run again.
Thankfully I had a long sailing delivery trip to do immediately afterwards. By the time I came back I’d moved onto the “anger” phase. Birmingham was redemption.

“What doesn’t kill you…..” etc.

My standard subjective, rather than stats-based, blog if anyone hasn’t already read enough about London...

Thank you ptr👊

Bowman - Hope you’re enjoying your well-earned taper now?

5 weeks of supereasy running for me now, before 18 weeks of generally supereasy running before the next marathon (Lisbon) haha. Feels good.
