I had a couple of sprints for seconds in the marathons I did, e.g. 3:44:55 in Chester 2013 when 3:45 was the GFA at the time. 3:34:59 in Chester a year later, this time a BQ (3:35 for me back then, but realistically not enough because Boston always subtracts some time from the BQ stated on the website when too many runners apply).

In other races, however, I've been on the wrong end of those: 1:40:04 in the Lake Vyrnwy Half and 45:09 in the Cheshire 10k. The good thing about those is that you can race a 10k or a half more often than a marathon. That's why the near misses in marathons are more frustrating.

I have only ever managed a sprint at the end of one marathon but a like you on Sunday tipsku I couldn't bear the thought of not achieving my goal, 3.14.57 !!

I did a “massive” “sprint” last year in my first real marathon in Copenhagen for a 3:29:37 , just by luck though 😂
Not really sure what I was sprinting for,

According to my watch I had already done more than 42195, the big clock was “gun time” an a bit past 3:30.
I think I just wanted it to end.

A Medical person helped me to the side after that, “are you ok, do you need help” the finish photos where not flattering 🤣
I guess it’s a normal finishing for many of us though, marathons are long. :)

What fun. My last km at Berlin last year was done in 4:35. I realised I was cutting it really fine to go under 4 hours, and had to REALLY put the work in to get to the finish. It's surprising how far you have left to do after you go under the Brandenburg Gate!

I got a chip time of 3:59.09 (gun: 3:59.28), so it worked out well.

My first sub 3:15 was 3:14:56 at Birmingham 2017; I ran 3:15:03 at Boston 2019. Both without a watch. Some you win, some you lose😬
