This is the stuff of nightmares, sorry bowman. I have run a marathon dosed up on lemsip, Amsterdam coincidentally. It’s possible but probably a bit daft….

I see that you’ve managed to keep up the run streak while being ill. Hope that hasn’t hampered your recovery. Best wishes.

There's probably something to just having a few days off and not stressing about running. I think it 100% makes sense after the marathon, let yourself properly recover.

I won’t race, like I did a few weeks ago, if I feel like then.
But if I feel ok, and RHR is fine I will start. There’s still hope.

The streak hasn’t been hard to keep, and it has been very slow and short plods, and has felt nice afterwards.
Not harder really than a 15 min walk, I don’t se that messing this up.

@Windsor Wool and @Mark J 🇳🇿

Training has gone well with no hiccups.

On Sunday I did an easy 10 miler, later in the day I started sneezing and had to blow my nose constantly. Luckily it looks to be a mild illness, my training today 3x2k @ MP was fine.

Since I got seriously ill just two days before the Milan marathon earlier this year I'm rather paranoid about catching bugs this week.

I work in a hospital so I have an excuse to wear a face mask all day long (it is recommend to wear one in case of a viral infection). I will continue to do so for the rest of the week, I'm not taking any chances !

Training has gone slightly better than my Berlin marathon training in 2023, then again the Amsterdam course is slightly slower so that will probably even out.

The plan is to go out with the 3 hour pacers and blow up halfway...

Just kidding I will try to join the 3 hour group (that may be difficult because I'm one of the 7500 runners who start outside the stadium). I would like to be on pace from the start, not too quick and not too slow. Amsterdam is rather congested the first 3 miles, that may be a blessing in disguise because I tend to start too fast.

Good luck guys, hope you get to start lines healthy. I always cite my 2 week zero run taper with lurgy before my PB in 2013, and last marathon hurrah! Never lose hope!

slowdownyoumovetoofast fun watching the taper-itis from afar! :-) G
