I have previously on 3 or 4 occassions run 2 marathons with 4 or 5 weeks gap and so this sounds similar albeit with no race to recover from and a few extra weeks.

I think the idea of completing taper and then repeating the last 8 weeks sounds like a good idea. From memory my 5 weeks between marathns was roughly:

Week 1 - very little running and if any towards end of the week
Week 2 - recovery running but medium mileage
Weeks 3 & 4 - higher but not peak mileage with MP or Tempo sessions
Week 5 - taper

Njo, I’m having the same conversation in the sub 4 hour thread re the cancelled Gold Coast and now postponed Sunshine Coast. I feel like my training is going on forever but very pleased otherwise with times in training.
I’ve been advised to go easy for 2 weeks, easier sessions to support recovery and training fatigue, then pick up again.
It will be warmer in October. Fingers crossed it goes ahead. I haven’t been this fit for many years and need a race to show for it 🙄

My biggest concern is that it is looking good for lifting the lockdown tomorrow and restrictions eased for next Sunday (all cases today detected in quarantine) but who knows what will be going on in 9 weeks time. Just more uncertainty. Very glad we got a bit more notice than the Gold coast cancellation though. Good luck whatever happens.

I wouldn't do the taper as per the schedule as these are targeted to the race (ie sharpening). I would do an easy week or so of just running how you feel.

See if you have any halves between now and the rescheduled event to get a proper idea of your potential MP.

Baz - I have on 3 or 4 occasions run 4 or 5 marathons with 2 weeks gap lol

I'm with Joe, no need to taper. Why not just run for 2 weeks focusing on your aerobic fitness (no higher than top of zone 2) then pick up the plan for the last 6 weeks or so inc the taper.

For what’s it worth I would see a easy week or two and then pick up the plan for how many weeks you have left. Not running to a plan for a couple of weeks may also be a bit of a mental reset as much as physical. Just run for runnings sake and enjoyment

Thanks riggys99. I have stuck to my plan so closely for about 4 months. I need a break from it. Hopefully when I pick it up again next week I'll be fresher physically and mentally be more up for it. I have considered just shifting don't the half. But I'll do an (off plan!) long run on Sunday and see how I go.

5 weeks until the taper for London. 5 weeks to build something worth tapering from 😳!!

Need a race to show me where I might be. Had one in on Sunday but went out to a 90s dance party the evening before instead. When I complain at the VLM outcome please remind me of these moments!!

Your MP ( plus HMP ) session on Saturday was pretty tasty though !!

Surprised you had any energy left to dance the night away ;-)
