The first five times I went to Princetown it was drizzle and poor visibility, despite being sunny and clear a short drive away at Two Bridges.

Princetown is the only place I remember seeing minimum speed limit signs posted in the UK. On which note, my driving instructor had a 'game' which involved going from Princetown to Dousland without touching the accelerator or brakes, which IIRC, meant you had to hit about 80mph where the road goes over the side of Sharpitor. I think they've sensibly introduced a 40mph limit through the national park since then.

Yes, all roads over the moors are now 40mph 😉

I've often wondered about that and I only assume that, since you're not required to have a speedo the charge would have to be “cycling furiously” or similar.

I've never understood the basis for the argument that since bicycles don't have to have speedos, speed limits don't apply. After all, there's also no law saying I've got to carry a ruler or a set of weighing scales either, but height/width limits and weight limits still apply. (The real reason that conventional speeding limits don't generally apply to bicycles is simply that that the laws are written such that they only apply to motorised vehicles.) |

Recently they had to reroute a cycle race, I think it was in Wales. The problem wasn't the bikes exceeding the speed limit but the support cars.

Most road traffic laws relate to motor vehicles, but as NR mentions there are some old, little used cycling laws.

I found myself looking at part time jobs today wondering if I could find a better balance than I have now. Mostly nothing was what I was looking for but eventually there was one that was 18 flexible hours a week where my skill set would be closely aligned and it was in something that would align with my philosophy on life. Sadly the role seems to have been filled, but it does have me wondering. |
