apart from one hour body pump which I do once or twice a week for the strength side of it, there is only 5 mins at the end of each class devoted to core work specifically so 20-30 mins per week - is that really loads? I didn't think I was doing enough, just assumed everyone got down on the floor at home every night and worked those abs in front of the tv !!!

A couple of people have mentioned standing core workouts - well done, they are way more effective for running. In fact traditional core training like crunches, planks etc havent been found to be of much if any benefit for running. According to several studies they may strengthen your core muscles but not in any way that improves running performance. Unfortunately the common recommendations on core exercises out there are very outdated. I have written a few blogs on the topic, they also describe a few far more effective core exercises andydubois.blogspot.com.au mile27.com.au |
