Like that Macca. Bit of doo-wop influence there and I'm a sucker for that
I've been searching around tonight trying to find a really obscure CD, it's called "Northern Soul on The Beach" and refers to predominantly blue-eyed soul of the flavour you find in the Carolinas, AKA "Beach Music". I suspect the CD is a bootleg as you would never be able to license something as rare as (say) The Nomads "Somethin's Bad" - it's literally lost in the sands of time. Anyway, that's a long way of saying that I was reminded of this track - it was big about 20 years back and is pretty rare, I watched as a friend of mine handed over £800 for a copy: I'm Such a Lonely One - The Oxford Nights.
Right, one from my youth here and a record that is not popular today. This is a bit of a weird one, definitely a Wigan-influenced sound and one that we all went nuts for. It has an odd pathos for something that actually has quite an up-tempo beat. One for the collectors today, I never saw a "real" copy until relatively recently, I could only afford a bootleg copy .....
Last one for tonight - one from the maestro that is Chuck Jackson, I'd recognise his voice anywhere. This sounds good in a big room, the backing vocals are sublime.
I'm just about to do a cook-up and play from page 1, noting down my faves. Gonna try to compile a top 10 or 20. Won't get through all tonight, so will have to bookmark ... recordmark.
I thought I might indulge of my "other" passion for your entertainment
