I must have said on multiple occasions that I like the mid-tempo soulful numbers best of all, so sorry for repeating myself. Here's a classic that I hope is new to a few of you, I've always loved it.
I re-read my post on the previous page about 'characteristics' of Northern Soul - and looked for the 'Edit' button. tbh, this site has managed well without one but it's clear from listening to NEs latest posted tracks that, as DT assets, there's *much* more variety - I refuse to use 'nuance', as the poor word is terribly overworked these days
'The Right Track' is an upbeat gem, while the less insistent tempo of Bobby Smith's tune serves to hole my generalisation under the waterline.
Some nice choices there Steve, bravo. I've always loved that Dee Dee Sharp track, a Torch classic and very popular in area I grew up. Billy Prophet a Wigan favourite
That Billy Prophet track made me think of some good uptempo numbers that we haven't had before, or even some that we have and perhaps haven't really hit the spot Here's one of my favourites, I think it ticks all the boxes and is a tremendous dancing record, I love the backing vocals, sparse though they are. What do you think?
The energy of lead & backing vocals is equally insistent - a true floor filler I do like the higher tone of the instrument near the start that sounds like a vibraphone - seems to feature large in Northern Soul.
I thought I might indulge of my "other" passion for your entertainment
Feel free to post, but please do try and keep it soulful. No funk or ska please! I maintain an off-line list of all the tracks posted, if you would like a copy please feel free to fmail me.
