Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm massively impressed by the work that's gone into course measurement. I suppose that happens for all serious races. But given that cycles wobble, is a bike a good way of measuring a straight line?

This link may be of interest...http://www.coursemeasurement.org.uk/director-1.htm
I thought they walked the route with the bike but it doesn't say that on the link. I like it that they have a section to put GPS users right!

I've entered. It looks far from beastly, in fact it looks quite lovely.

This is less than a week away now! Feel a bit nervous. My last long run was the furthest I've ever done, at around 13.4 miles. So I know technically I can do it. But that was a flat route and it still hurt!

Have a good run Frobester.

Mave - the adrenaline will help you on the day :-) And if it's your first race at this distance whatever time you do will be a PB, which you can later beat on an easier course - so what's not to like? ;-)

I've entered. I didn't bother reading the course description because I just thought how hilly can it really be.

Given that I slogged my guts out doing another 1/2 only 2 days ago that may have been unwise, Oh well. There's medals at the end and that's all I care about!

I did it! And absolutely loved it.

It was very hilly. My sister who is training for the VLM ran this with me for support and her words were "if i was doing this at race pace, it would be really really tough. you chose a hard one for your first half marathon!". The trail bit was quite short, which is a shame as it was the bit that I liked the best. The marshalls were friendly, enthusiastic and offered lots of supprt. There were plenty of water stations offering both water and sports drinks. It was generally well organised.

My only gripe was that the start/finish line was a long way from race HQ. So this meant a 5 minute walk from bag drop/toilets etc to the start. Not a problem. But, the 10 minute walk from the finish line to the town centre where they were handing out the goody bags, medals and t shirts was a KILLER! This was not done with runners in mind! I really suffered on that walk back. I appreciate that it was done to try and get a 'running festival' vibe in the centre of town. If this is important, then the finish line should be in the town centre.

I'm gutted I couldn't do this. It sounded like a fantastic race, I will move heaven and earth to be there next year. I'm sure they'll take learning points away Mave, (the organiser has already said by email they realise it wasn't the best in terms of distance between HQ and start/finish).

Shame you couldn't make it Frobester. It was a good run.
