Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

The Baldock Beast - is this suitable for a first timer?

What Edj said. I will have a look at the route but that area is undulating at worst and certainly wouldn't be described as too hilly.

My first (and only) marathon was over the South Downs. 5hrs10mins, and I certainly wasn't the last. My first road marathon, if I ever get around to it, should see me beat that PB by 70 minutes, or at least that's what I'd want to do.

I have just looked at the route and would suggest that it will be fairly undulating as the terrain does go up and down out towards Sandon. There will certainly be no huge killer hills but it will also be far from flat. I wouldn't call it a beast though!

The Berkhamsted Half, which I'm doing, is properly less suitable for a first-timer than this one.

Thanks. Have heard back form the race contact and the time limit is 3 hours, which I'd certainly hope to complete it in! Although, having never done a half, I really have no idea.

three hours sounds more than enough time for a half with your 10k time

Cheers for your encouragement.

I've just mapped the profile and its not hugely more undulating than my usual routes. Lets face it, its not going to be fell running!

It definitely sounds like "beast" is a bit of a misnomer in this case.

This is literally on my doorstep, and it is pretty hilly round here, at least by SE England standards. Good thing is the long uphill drag is at the start and you get to run back down that at the end.
