Nice to know we are not the only idiots!
Quicker transitions is interesting - we clearly need to practice and get the balance right in training

Looking forward to racing with you, longboat!
The race website includes a Garmin link for a team that averaged a brisk 6:43 / mile, and who had 12 turns each, suggesting quicker transitions.
I once did a team swim event (20km, 1 boat, 4 swimmers), which may be completely irrelevant for this running event, but the top swimming teams changed very frequently - every 3 minutes. They didn't bother climbing back into the boat, and trailed behind. But most weaker teams (including us!) changed every 15-20 minutes and did get back into the boat, where the beers were.
Physiologically the quicker transitions might be better, but for teams that aren't at the pointy end of the field might be psychologically easier to settle into 30 minute stretches, knowing there's a meaningful 30 minute break at the end of it . .
