Our school is opening to Yr R, 1 & 6 on the third. We have been closed because when we opened for key workers early on we had no takers. We are a fairly small independent school. Was a bit surprised to get a letter, as a parent, today saying that the school was also reopening to key worker children. As a lowly teacher we hadn't been told.

Remote teaching went well today. Got kicked out of Teams on a regular basis. We are doing end of year assessments after half term - via Teams. I can see it going really well.

We've had so many parents who are key workers tell us that they are returning to work on 1st June. We'll have about 75 pupils just for childcare (we've had up to 20 during lockdown), so its looking like childcare only from 1st June and then we'll see how that goes and add Reception bubbles the following week, if places are still wanted and we can do it safely.
In a case of bad timing, kind of, I've heard to day that i'm hoping a long awaited operation on 12th June so will be self-isolating form 28th May. I won't be in school on 1st June so my deputy will have to manage any problems that arise. I feel a bit guilty.

We're opening on the 8th, to Nursery & Reception, then a week later to Yr 1. No inidication yet as to when we open to Yr 6. We have bubbles almost organised, and a letter went to parents to "watch this space" refading drop off and collection times, etc. One teacher for each bubble. 4 day week for the children, with the Friday given over to intensive cleaning.

Extra medical room facilities (quite what that means, considering we don;t have any extra space, is beyond me) including a separate one for COVID-specific symptoms, should they arise.

No indication of what the non-teaching staff will be expected to do. No indication on change of working patterns yet either.

Risk assesments are currently 18 pages long, and about to be discussed with the unions.

We've cleared a weird corridory thing where we normally store netball posts and spare bins and put up some shower curtains to make a 'covid centre' which is away from everyone else and opens to the outside with its own (battered steel) door. The space was previously used as the swine flu medical centre!

We have also managed to juggle some TA hours and, with a bit of goodwill and SLT members who are 'bubble' teachers, can staff each bubble from 8 - 4 to provide a bit of childcare before and after school.

While I was out running this evening I realised that I will be expected to teach the children of strangers before I am allowed to see my own older two children. It isn't as though we see them all the time normally, but we'd normally see them during the Easter break and with it now coming up to the end of university year for both of them I am really missing them.

It does seem odd to be encouraging mixing of households that aren't known to each other before those that are (and where you can be happy both households have been limiting their risks sufficiently).

8-4 will really help the parents out cyclops. I hope the plan works out for you.

GM - Even childcare will be a help. Lucky/unlucky about the operation. You might be going back just as it gets busier.

So, D and K are both teachers. From Jun 8, their schools will be open to more than just keyworkers, and both D and K will be expected to go to work.

D and K have two children, a daughter aged 4 and a son aged 10.

So the daughter's nursery is open as she is 4 and due in.

The son is year 5, so school isn't necessarily open to him, but he's the child of a key worker, so he could go in.

D starts work at 8.30. K starts at 8.50, as do the kids.

D finished at 4.30, K at 3.15, the daughter at 3.20 and the son at 3.30.

However, D and K work at a school 15 minutes pedal to the metal from the kids' school.

There is no wraparound provision. They have only one car. They cannot allow our children to socialise with their grandmother.

How will D and K's children get to and from school?

It's a really problem DG. I've spent all day (9 hours non-stop) trying to fit the pieces of the jigsaw together for our 1st June plan. We will only have key worker children (75 of our 250 pupils) and have no more staff available to add any more groups going forward, unless social distancing rules are relaxed. Me not being in school means my deputy won't be able to take a group and I have another teacher shielding. I only have one member of staff in each group so can't spread them any thinner. We also need to include PPA time - two lots as they are planning for key worker groups and still having to do planning for on-line learning for their classes.
Part of the plan includes staggered drop off and collection times. I have a member of staff whose own child goes to another school, so I've put her with the latest start and earliest finish times to make it work for her. I think employers have to be understanding and make allowances tbh.
There are so many "rules" we are trying to follow and sadly none of them are "Have 30 children in a class, allow general movement around a building, mix with your friends, have lunch in the hall, run around the playground and all arrive and leave at the same time."
