I think they're open but noone can go there. They are mostly in Level 1 areas (Highlands) so stuff is open, it's just that no one from anywhere with any population can get there!

Actually Glenshee is week after next, weather depending. I do ski touring so I don't actually need lifts to be open. Car parks would be good though. But not allowed to go, as it stands.

Atomic Backland 85 ski, Fritschi Daimir Freeride bindings, Scarpa Maestrale boots. Used about 5 times so far! :-) G

That sounds like a personal grooming question! :-O I use skins on the base of the skis. Is there an alternative? That's the only thing I know. It was great fun, the couple of wee days out that I had. And they are fine for my ability for downhill too. :-) G

:) :)
When we skied in Norway there was a (seemingly endless) variety of different waxes to groom your skis with. The science / knowledge was all about what order to apply them and at what temperatures. The basic idea was that the wax was sticky against the snow for climbing. You reapplied wax throughout the day, depending on conditions and as it wore off.

All of my UK skiing friends use skins.

We've been looking at the Braemar webcams with the snow falling. The retirement plan was to get in the moho and drive up there at the first sign of snow, but that isn't going to happen any time soon. We've got a pitch booked in February so hoping we can travel by then (or sooner if there's more snow in January). We usually stop at Glenshee on the way there and back to watch the skiers.

GM, if you're *watching* skiers, what are you and Mr GM going up to snowy Scotland for, if not skiing? Is it hill walking / mountaineering / ice climbing or something?

OK I've held off long enough.

If you're heading on a board or the planks, where are you off to?...
