Kilmacolm HM is open for entries for 2019 already! This year's only finished a few hours ago. (Not uncommon for German races to have this advance planning, but I've rarely seen it over here and never afaik for a small local race.) Strathearn Marathon is also now open, for those who like that sort of thing (and I know that a few here do.) Stirling 10K for me today, went ok (by current standards). Downpour just after I finished. Which is better than before I finished. Field about 150 down on usual (due to Auchterarder?) I noticed something odd though - proportionally many fewer women running this year. |

Kilmacolm do that ever year. In the past they offered half price entries if you signed up the first week of opening, now it’s early bird so not as much of a saving. Ran the half yesterday and really enjoyed it, I know it’s not everyone’s favourite course being on the cycle path for 11 miles but a good test running slightly uphill from halfway to 11 miles. Well organised, lucozade at halfway and water elsewhere and two Morton players basing out the medals and prizes. 😅 |

Gateway to the Glens 10k in Kirriemuir this weekend. Anyone doing it? Apparently has a sting in the tail and is a race like no other! |

I did it last year. Certainly the last half mile was tough. With a climb that will bring all but the most determined to a walk.

Think I’m going to try Lanark parkrun this weekend, anyone done it and what did you think of it?

I liked Lanark, but thought I had run 6 km by the end. (I hadn't). It has quite a bit of variety. I suggest trail-capable shoes for the wooded section if it has been particularly wet. I had a cracking day for it and enjoyed the traily bit more than I often would. My time however was nearly as slow as Drumchapel :-o. The "Scottish parkruns 2018" guys were there the day I visited as was "All Scottish parkruns" allscottishparkruns.wordpress.com (parkruns in alphabetical order on the blog). Mind you, the latter wrote "not sure if it’s a course that lends itself to knowing what lies in wait" so you might not want to look at those links before going ;-). Viewing the video, I did think "wow, there was even less space between thae dugs and the loch than I thought!". Plentiful parking right by the start, just remember to go to the horsey bit and not the main loch car park. And give yourself enough time for tourist route into Lanark itself off the M74, if you go that way. Afterwards, I went down to New Lanark and wandered along the Clyde, well worth doing if you legs arnae trashed (hills!). |

Re times at Lanark: I wasn't flat out, but gave it a decent effort. My time of 35:07 put me in the top 60% on the day: at Falkirk that same time would be around the 85th percentile. Early days, but the Lanark average time is 32:02 (and it's not due to mass walking). Out of 273 runners so far, only six have broken 20:00, and only six have bettered 70% age grade. So I think it is right to say that it is amongst Scotland's tougher parkruns, despite a fair bit of it being flat. |
