OuchOuch
Welcome Gerard, football & marathon running, the best 2 ways to get injured known to man. Hope the coach gives you the condition to keep injury free and be consistent (which seems to be the holy grail). Do post, more the merrier especially if there is a hint of a negative split.
TR - A squeaky dragon, is this a euphemism or a traditional TR birthday gift.

DT - Nice 11m and that is a good sign indeed.

Wardi - Hope to go back to Barca one day, Valencia less so. I didnt appreictae your 67, thought you were a mere 64 or 65 yr old, your doing great and a nice 11m too.

Went with the 7m pace group last night - 4 of the guys are going to Malaga also, so plenty of chat about that whilst another is doing a 200 mile winter race!! So, 7-8m (Garmin issues i.e. I didn't press the resume button) @ 6.51 pace, slower on the uphills, faster on the downs. 2 hardish days on the troy, so dangerous stuff hence a rest day today. Bleedin freezing outside.

LMH, I can't cope with that it messes up sessions and long runs.

Riggsy, same here, very cold and frosty night and day, but equally blue skies and beautiful day to run.

Ouchouch, good going, sounds like a decent group with all that chat.

Spin first thing, then 7.5m very easy at lunchtime. Will pop back to the gym when I drop my son at footy training to have an hour in the steam room and jacuzzi.

Hill session tomorrow, so lighter on volume. Wife's birthday saturday so moved things about to have a rest day then. No squeaky dragons as yet, though I am off to Home Bargains this evening to buy wrapping paper so i'll see what i can pick up.

I'm happy to do long runs in that kind of temperature and humidity DT19. I think I must be part lizard. I just soak it up.

My knees generally respond better to being kept going too OO61.

Very cold here this morning (feels like -2C at 0800hrs) and a very thick frost. I was quite happy not to be trying to motivate myself out for a run though given the shift I've just had it may have been the easier option.

My No 1 girl was 8 yday, she has a wet nose and loves a squeaky toy.

Real cold here, all the wet froze over. So a cold bike ride in this morning.

Went over (a root) in a darker area on my way home tonight, ripped open the elbow and knee wounds from a few weeks ago, added a couple more wounds and my hip/back now hurts again..........running is becoming a toil lately.

TR.. you seem to be having similar luck to me with injuries, hope it's nothing too serious and you've got the dressings and savlon on.

OO61.. I forgot to mention congratulations in advance at your forthcoming 500th Parkrun. I thought was doing well passing 250 in Jan!

OO.. Valencia has gone a bit mad since we were there a few years ago. One of my club fast lads is going to Seville in Feb after 2 Londons and 1 Valencia. Good sustained session last night, great to be able to chat about forthcoming events.

LMH.. a few patches of frozen frost here too but only in exposed places. Lovely sunny day for a run once warmed up.

5.2m with Mrs Wardi this morning, still got shorts on here. Another 3m on the treadie later to keep the knee moving.

Evening

Hope your ok TR. Tree roots are a real trip hazard. I think my last 2 falls have been due to tree roots. I did think No1 girl was a dog - same in our house.

More good miles Wardi

Good club run OO

Hope your next shift is better LMH

First night back at work since Sunday.
Leg not to bad. Have even managed a couple of minutes of calf raises.

Thank you one and all for the welcomes.

LMH - this year’s winner was a V50 athlete, she ran 3:04, previous year was a pal of mine, who ran 3:03. Big prize money for such a small event. I think my pall won £2k.

Wardi - yes, I have noted your bad run of luck with the various injuries. You’re still running very good times.

OO61 - thanks pal, loved listening to your podcast. Amazing similarities between your posts abroad and my family, so much so I believe you lived in the same part of Paris too. Happy memories. I miss the Netherlands. Love that place. I didn’t realise you had a long period in your 30’s and 40’s where running wasn’t your focus. As you said, probably one of the factors attributable to your condition as a V60. It’s also a genetic thing. You’ve aged very well. There’s a chap here who is a similar age and is running very quick times like you. He’s doing Valencia.

TR - sorry to hear about your fall. Is it poorly lit up? I don’t enjoy running in the dark at all. Hopefully no lasting damage. Roll on spring! Haha, took me a few seconds to figure out you were referring to your dog.

OO - thank you. I think it will help having the s&c sessions. He’s not going to give me running advice per se but will toughen me up. He’s extremely experienced and passionate about sport. Back to back decent sessions. Nice.

Riggys - hope you’re back to it soon.

The weather here has been so weird. Freezing about a week or so ago and then 17c, Sunny and zero wind. I went to a mobile sauna on Sunday which overlooks the promenade from a height. Very enjoyable, it’s a Finnish design. Wood burner and gets up to approx. 100c. It’s a great concept, they usually park at one of the bay’s and it’s nice to cool off in the sea afterwards. It was parked on the grounds of a fancy hotel who allowed us to use the outdoor pool. If wax 8c. Brrr! Very nice experience. Been doing it for the past 10 months or so. The hotel guests having their Sunday lunch must have thought, what a bunch of lunatics. 😜 Ticking over here with a mix of progressive/steady/easy 5 milers each night this week. Rest day tomorrow and aiming for a double figure MLR Saturday. Patiently building back up the miles.

You really aren't having much luck lately TR. I hope you aren't too stiff and sore this morning.

Me too riggys - can't have too many like yesterday and do the job well.

Wow Gerard - that is some prize money and would definitely be an incentive to try to get back into sub 3 shape. Would cover the costs too which some races don't do with their prize money. I'd like the sauna part but probably skip the dip afterwards. :-)

Spanish marathons are the best. I've done most of them. Cheap and easy to get to, nice sunshine for food and beer post race. Seville is a good one, easy to combine with a few days holiday.
TR you really are having a bad run. I hope no1 dog can cheer you up.
Glad you are on the up Gerard. Those mobile saunas have taken off here too, on the beach at Tynemouth. I haven't been tempted yet 🥶.
Back home later today. An easy parkrun tomorrow, then a 5 mile beach race on Sunday. Running like a donkey so not taking it too seriously.

LMH - yes, I recall a visitor I met from Norwich ran it and came 4th (3:2x) and won £500. She said it covered the cost of her trip and done extra cash to spend celebrating. I just checked and the 2025 prizes are as below.

Sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank
1st £2,500
2nd £1,500
3rd £1,000
4th £500
5th £250
I loathe cold water but it’s very therapeutic. Last winter I began sea immersion for my legs. I found it really helps relieve aches and stiffness afar a long run. I’ve got neoprene boots for this winter as it was very painful on the feet for about 30 mins after.

OO - thank you. I love Spain. T & I will probably move out there in the not too distant future. How’s your knee? What Mara are you planning around Xmas? Heard a mention of that on your podcast.

DT - I forgot to say, I think you go to the same JL facility as my sister, who lives in Blackwell (she lives there on weekends). When is your next race?

Wardi - how’s the knee?

Seems to be lots of niggles and illness affecting people atm. Rest day for me today. Weather is looking fab here for tomorrow. 14c, sunny and light wind.

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
