A lot of the Portugal team have a 7s background and from what I’ve seen are fast, fit, agile, great handling skills, creative, flair etc
Think they’ve been good at playing on their own terms

Good chunk of the Portugal team play professionally in France don't they?
I heard an interview with the captain yesterday after the match, and he said something about "Portugal and France" suggesting many of the team had at least French backgrounds.

Bit harsh on the southern hemisphere. NZ, Australia, South Africa and Argentina are your only viable options aren't they?

I'm amazed that only 8 nations have ever got to the semi-finals. And they don't include Ireland, who are almost perennial quarter-finalists.

Southern would have more options if Fiji/Samoa/Tonga were allowed a seat at the top table rather than having their young talent harvested by the big 3 and left with hardly any games….
