Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I just read an article somewhere about controlled rolling 3 hour power outages this winter being unavoidable. It was put as a matter of when, not iff...

We had ours in the van this weekend, it will boil the camping kettle and run the mini Ramoska oven, extending battery and thus off-grid time whilst sparing the gas for hot water and the fridge. Husband is going to charge it whilst driving the works van until I get a solar panel for it . Will be v useful should we get rolling power cuts, alongside my old camping stove and the open fire to keeus warm :)

We recently moved house into the countryside. Just had a 5 minute power outage, but winds are still blowing, so got the following ready.

Mobile phone and tablet fully charged.
Large stock of wood for the log burner.
2 head torches fully charged and spare batteries available.
Cooking/Tea/Coffee can be done on hob as got plenty calor gas.
Plugged the campervan in so that it has a full charge if it does go out.

Thought behind getting the campervan fully charged is it has diesel heater, fridge/freezer, gas cooking facilities and a way to charge mobile phone/laptop. That way I can still eat, heat and work.

I think I'm pleased to say that I haven't needed mine so far. I look upon it like an insurance policy, so don't regret buying one, 'just in case'.
Having said that, I don't think I've charged it since Christmas, so thanks for ther reminder to give it a boost!

Gosh, this reminds me that we haven't had a significant power cut for ages. Probably jinxed it now...

Tins of cold spam make a good emergency food supply when power cuts prevent cooking.

About This Thread

We live in a fairly rural environment, normally subject to storm electric outage a few times a year. For 4-6 hour, not days.
And it looks like there may be rolling cuts this winter.

But we are reliant on electricity, like most, for broadband and wifi connection. And also for any mobile phone or SMS messaging, since there's no mobile reception here.

Solar panels are too much for me ... so I've been looking at 240V power banks, typically 500-700 Wh, £500 plus or minus-ish, that w...
