I think I got £5.72 a week for doing a paper round, 7 days and I used to get in early and set out the rounds for everyone else (which got me around £1 of that). Felt rich on the day you got your cash, in a little brown envelope with a window, each week. Barely covers a coffee these days…. |

theguardian.com Of course Starmerites will stubbornly cling to the wrong side of the argument and be on the wrong side of history. |

A majority of Britons who voted to leave the EU would now accept a return to free movement in exchange for access to the single market, according to a cross-Europe study that also found a reciprocal desire in member states for closer links with the UK. Among all UK voters, 68% of respondents would now back free movement in exchange for single market access, with 19% opposed and majority support among supporters of every party apart from Reform UK (44% of whose voters also backed the idea). Excerpts from the article above. Is the tide turning? |

Starmerites will hold out against it. Can’t admit to being wrong when it’s staring them in the face.

1987-8 I worked as a 15yo delivering cream door to door ("CreamBoy" was the brand name!). 4 hours it took to walk the route I was assigned to, 8p per single pot I sold, 5p if I sold in multiples. Would earn about £4 or £5 on a regular Friday doing the round, so probably about £1.25 per hour max.

lol larkim, I did the same job but a few years before you. At Christmas my goods on offer expanded to include various butchers stuff and also gifts. On the day I had to do the Christmas deliveries I had some sickness bug and my Mum had to do the round for me

I did quite well on £2.97/hour as a graduate civil engineer on construction sites in 1988. It shows that it was worth getting a degree in those days.
