Mr. K.
Pestomum - I believe the Frimley Lodge parkrun RD (Steve Osborn aka as Wally) has made some good connections with the local council there, so maybe worth dopping him a mail.

dunno if North Tyneside needs a parkrun - the Newcastle one is pretty close (I've metro'd North Shields to Toon for parkrun a couple of times). I think it would weaken the events if only a few went to each, Newcastle would lose numbers if there were two in the same area.

That's not what's happened in other areas, rob. But the council won't pay the set up fee of £5k anyway, so it's not happening.

Good point Rob. There are already three parkruns in the North East so accessible to everyone apart from the far reaches of Northumberland. There aren't enough runners in the area to warrant another one (that's my own opinion) and in times when public spending needs to be cut so much, I'm not surprised that the council won't fund another one in the area.

I agee with Rob .i would hate to see the newcaslte one weekened in its infancy. The newcastle one is easy to get to and is hardly overrun with runners at the moment. Maybe one a bit further out or off the metro but its only a what 10 minute drive away? just a thought.

But it encourages people who aren't prepared to travel (or who rely on public transport) etc, surely. Maybe another time, PM.

Around here, the Newcastle parkrun is accessible by fast(ish) public transport from all over Tyneside so that covers the whole area. We also have a parkrun just down the road in Sunderland and also another close(ish) one in Albert Park. Unless a parkrun opens up further North in Northunberland, I don't think there is any call for any more around here.

I know that's my own opinion but I'm sticking to it and only typing here to state my opinion.

I know what you mean, but just thinking about people who don't run yet & need inspiring.
Or people who are scared of those mean black coos on the moor...
