2011 - Pirates of Penzance: 8734 people in fancy dress assembled on Penzance Promenade. The Guinness World Records later confirmed that Penzance now held the title for the largest gathering of pirates in one place, officially beating the previous record set by 6166 pirates in Hastings in 2010

Google says that Hastings reclaimed the record in 2013 and Penzance has tried and failed twice to beat the record since then, with the second attempt being a few short due to some pirates failing to leave the pub on time.
