Cool lets hope that is the same on race day ......... my experience of the Ullswater way race hasn't left me filled with confidence.

I was planning to start at the back. Mainly for pacing so I donβt go off to quickly but I donβt really fancy the usual pre race pens.
I assume there will be a few bottle necks but not UTMB/CCC style

Couple of bottlenecks in the first mile or so, mainly at the miner's bridge and the trail around there. After that you won't have a problem.
Last time around Kinky, Fenners & I were the last three through the gate at the bridge. Happy to do the same again; there's plenty of time to push hard later, and it's nice to spend the next 58 miles picking people off

More than happy being last at the Miner's Bridge. But also more than happy being the last finisher.

I was having a look at the splits from 2019 and it looks like people go out pretty quickly to CP1.
7 miles with 2,000ft+ of climbing in about 90 minutes for mid pack sounds quite punchy.
Pace crashes after CP3. Iβm aiming for something a bit more evenβ¦

Dave the pace crashes for a number of reasons after CP3. Firstly it gets dark, secondly you hit the first proper climb and finally the runnability drops (I.e even the descents are rougher and steeper). I'd say they all play at least as big a part as the early pace being too quick. To maintain the same pace after CP3 you have to waste the good running early on.

Ooooh, a group on fetch about the race. The facebook is indeed full of idiots asking what the best socks are.
Anyway, what are the best socks to wear for the race?

Iβve just been looking at the route stats to get my head round things. CP3-CP5 has the most climbing of any stretch so helps explain it plus the start of darkness
Iβm trying to get the balance between running when the going is good versus sprinting off at half marathon paceβ¦

Gromit, I'll be at the back for the 50. Stopping at the portaloos after the estate lap and then trundling along and seeing what happens. A good quality mask will be used in the marquee and on the bus, restrictions lifted or not.
Providing "evidence" of a negative LFT test isn't evidence at all when you self-report the result.

Portaloos? Thereβs trees everywhere for that kind of thing.
