Oh my goodness... What a great question! Pull up a chair TripleJ...
Actually, a lot depends on geography - I'll wax lyrical about the Scottish ultras which I do, but that's not so great if you're not in Scotland. However, the must-do ultra that tops my list is the 53 mile Highland Fling in late April.

Not checked recently, but I think it's a case of doing a qualifying event, of which the lakeland 50 is one, not all of them.

Wot flanker said. And I think there is a specified time you need to complete the Lakeland 50, sub-15 hours from memory.

I thought the 50 was a sub 16 qualifying time?

not sure, but you'd need to be able to do a lot faster than a 16 hour 50 to meet the 100 cut-offs. The 3 x 50 mile time does seem to be a good estimate of 100 time.

I was just thinking that. I'd say you're spot-on there.

Yep, flanker you agree with Andy Cole, he advocates Lakeland 50 x 3 as a benchmark for the Lakeland 100.

Nice to have some chat here. 'Cos this is coming up soon isn't it? I need to sort out what I'm doing. Actually, that's easy: run 50 miles... I need to sort out logistics, such as anything more than get up early on Friday morning, drive to Coniston, pitch a tent and wander about chatting a bit.
Anyone else heading down from Scotland?
