I think you’ve nailed it GimmeMincepiesI don’t know what hard is! Or how hard it should be to be more accurate

Those are decent weights, GM :-)

Nic has me doing similar now. Depending on the exercise I’m doing either 2 sets of 10 or 3 sets of 8. I then go up by a rep a week, and when I get to 15, I will increase the weight. She also has me resting for 2 minutes between sets - which feels like a lifetime!!! But is necessary if you’re lifting heavy - like RPE 9 or 10.

That's good to know, Cath, thanks. I feel like I'm a weakling :)

I rest for 90 seconds between sets - it goes on for ever, but that recovery time is necessary if the weight is challenging enough. If I can cut it short, then it's time to up the reps (or weight).

Incidentally, I can lift more with a barbell bench press than I can dumbbell floor press, GM. So don’t be afraid of lifting more sooner if you feel capable of it. The barbell can be easier to control than two separate dumbbells.

I agree about barbells and dumbbells. If I'm at the seaside I use dumbbells for bench press - and to REALLY challenge stability will lie on the Swiss Ball to do it. Definitely with much lighter weight than in the gym.

Oh, tell me about comedy dumbbells, my left arm just seems on a different planet sometimes.

I could say the same thing about my right arm, Quimby… (I’m a leftie :-) )

I'm planning on joining a gym when I get home next week so I can move onto barbell lifting - I'm curious to know how much I could lift if my weaker right arm is counteracted by my stronger left arm.

My PT has put together a plan for me to try out if I decide to go, mixing machines and barbells; if not, I can stick with the dumbbell and bodyweight plan I use at home. Or I can mix it up.
